Clarence Durand

ROSSVILLE Clarence S. Durand, Jr., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. He was 89 years old.Clarence was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and proudly served our country in the U. S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Standard Coosa Thatcher with over 30 years of service. Clarence enjoyed remodeling and painting for individuals. He was a member of Second Baptist Church where he played the organ. Clarence was a member of the American Legion Post 0400. He was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Watha Peach Durand; parents, Coedell and C. S. Durand, Sr.; step-mother, Kathryn Durand and a brother, William Durand. Clarence is survived by his children, Susan (Ray) Bible, Rick (Susan) Durand and Joan (Ward) Dickens; sister, Viola (Roy) Grider; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. on Friday July 6, at the North Chapel in Hixson.Graveside services for Clarence will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 6, at National Cemetery with Rev. Bert Jones officiating. The family would like to thank Soddy Daisy Health care, the second floor nurses at Memorial at Hixson, Rescare Homecare, Red Bank Baptist Homebound Ministry and Brenda Shelton and Christa Gamble for the love and care given to Mr. Durand during his illness. Memorial contributions may be made in Clarences name to the Homebound Ministries at Red Bank Baptist Church, 4000 Dayton Blvd, Red Bank, TN 37415.
