Nana Jean

Jean Elizabeth "Nana Jean" Day Roddy, 85, of Sale Creek, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, Monday afternoon, July 9, 2012.She was born July 31, 1926 in Flint, Mich., to the late Thomas Lee and Maude Coulter Day. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Crawford Roddy; and grandson, Daniel L. Roddy.A resident of the Sale Creek and Dayton areas, all of her life, she retired from Signal Knitting Mills after many years as a sewing machine operator. She was a member of Graysville Church of God, where she was very involved with the childrens ministries. She was a Sunday School teacher for 30 years and was head of the kitchen crew for the Wednesday night children.Jean is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis (Tommy) Aslinger and Lynn Roddy, both of Sale Creek; son Steve Roddy, of Graysville; six grandchildren, Jeremy Roddy, of Chattanooga, Jeff Roddy, of Graysville, Jon (Jenika) Hancock, of Dayton, Amy (Shane) Bailey, of Crossville, Randall Francisco, of McMinnville and Russ (Lisa) Francisco, of Sale Creek; 12 great-grandchildren and special extended family, Sherry Barnes and Bryan Keith.Those serving as pall bearers will be Charles Bandy, Joe Hodge, Melvin May, Steve Jones, Dale Vandergriff, Donny Hutchins and Barry Daniel and honorary pallbearers will be Mike Defur and Bob Harrold.Funeral services for "Nana Jean" will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jimmie Talley officiating.
