Karon Jennings

Dr. McMINNVILLE Dr. Karon Ray Jennings, D.V.M. died on Thursday, July 12, 2012, in McMinnville.He was born Oct. 29, 1925, in Lawrence County, Tenn. He was a graduate of Lawrence County High School, attended the University of Tennessee, and graduated from Auburn University. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, serving in the Pacific Arena, a life member of American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. While at Auburn, he was very active in student affairs including membership in Alpha Psi Fraternity, president of ODK, president of the Interfraternity Council and as a senior he was a member of the Spade Society. He began his practice of veterinary medicine in McMinnville in 1950 as owner of the Animal Clinic and retired in 2001. He was an honorary member of the American Veterinary Association and served as a president of the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association. After retiring, he did consulting work for two pharmaceutical companies until 2010. He was a long standing member of First United Methodist Church.Dr. Jennings was preceded in death by his parents, William Nathaniel and Ora Mink Jennings, his first wife, Peggy Copeland Jennings; a brother, Kenneth Jennings; and a stepdaughter, Gennie Askin.Survivors include his wife, Rita Jennings; daughter, Joyce Jennings Smith and husband, Craig, of Signal Mountain, and her family, Cindy and Ray Idell, Craig, Jenny, Cassie and Haley Smith, and Mark Smith, daughter, Rhea Jennings Studer and husband, Jim, of Signal Mountain; her family Abby Studer Garrison and husband, Ben and Jack Studer and wife, Caitlin, all of Chattanooga; stepdaughters, Donna Askin Board and husband, Ronnie and family Neal, September, Asher and Alex Board of Owensboro, Ky., and Lynn Askin Roush and husband, Tony and family Madeline and Elizabeth, of Orlando, Fla. He is also survived by brothers, Robert Neal Jennings and wife, Virginia, of Huntsville, Ala., William Hugo Jennings and wife, Becky, of Burlington, NC, and Dr. Harold Jennings and wife, Diane, of Reidsville, NC.The family wishes to thank Deb Meeks for her tender and loving care of Doc.Funeral service is 1 p.m. (CDT) Saturday, July 14, 2012, at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. John W. Vaughn will officiate.Interment in Mt. View Cemetery.
