George Schmidt

George B. Schmidt, 87, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012, joining his beloved wife, Wynetta, in the presence of the Lord.A native of Beloit, Kan., he had lived in Chattanooga for many years.George was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Hixson. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a computer programmer, retired from many years of service with TVA and also served NASA on the Apollo program.He was preceded in death by his wife and eight siblings.Survivors include daughters, Kristi (Mitchell) Offutt and Karla (Danny) Entler; son, John Schmidt; grandchildren, Zachary (Karen) Schmidt, Drew and Jerett Offutt, Anna and Emily Schmidt; great-grandson, Bobby Sharp Jr.; brother, Carlos Schmidt and several nieces and nephews.A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Charlie Burton officiating; entombment to follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
