Fred Hooper

TUNNEL HILL Fred Hooper, 78, departed this life Sunday, July 22, 2012.He was born in Towns County, Ga., to the late Oscar and Bertha Hooper. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later retired from Sweetwater Carpet after 36 years of service with them. Fred was better known as an avid Bee Keeper and was a member of the Bee Keepers Association and a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church in Tunnel Hill. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Oda Lee Gibson, Leona Massingale, Anna Bell Deason, Carmie Nichols; and his twin brother, Frank Hooper. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Ann Hooper, of Tunnel Hill; children, Vicki (Van) Goins, of Rock Spring, Duane Hooper, of Tunnel Hill, Jeanne (Ronnie) Wright, Duanah Eaves Leigh (Jack), Trena (Ray) Jones, all of Ringgold; siblings, Melvin Hooper, Dewey Hooper, both of Tunnel Hill, Evaline Hobbs, of Sugar Valley; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Pine Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Williams and Rev. Lillard Stringer officiating.Family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and will lie in state from 11 a.m. until service time at the church Wednesday.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pine Hill Baptist Church, 12626 Highway 41, Tunnel Hill, GA 30755.Arrangements are by the Ringgold Chapel of Wilson Funeral Homes-Ringgold.
