Walter Clepper

Walter D. Clepper, of Ooltewah, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, June 4, 2012, at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was 83 years old.Walter was born in Oswego, Kan., and moved to the Chattanooga area at a young age. He graduated from Kirkman High School in 1947. Walter started his military career in the National Guard, graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in 1971, and retired as a Colonel in the Army Reserves with over 31 years of service to his country. He was a former employee with the Electric Power Board and retired as president from Logan Moore Incorporated in Chattanooga. Walter was a former member of Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church and currently a member of Morris Hill Baptist Church. He served on several building committees at both churches, was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class, he loved his church, traveling and helping others. Walter was an avid golfer and served at the Course Marshall at the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta. He was a member of the Chattanooga Radio Control Club.He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 61 years, Leta Jeanette Clepper, who he loved and cared for during her illness.Walter is survived by his son, Steven (Kim) Clepper, Atlanta; and daughter, Lisa Ann Martinez (Marty/deceased), Colorado Springs, Colo.; granddaughter, Lauren Clepper, Atlanta; brothers, Dr. Alan Clepper (Mim), Pine Mountain, Ga., Frank Clepper (Betty), Seymour, Tenn.; and sister-in-law, Jackie Clepper (Thomas/deceased), Parkersburg, W.Va.; and a host of nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. today and 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday at the North Chapel.Services for Walter will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Mason officiating where full military honors for Col.
