Boyd Veal

Boyd H. Veal, 81, retired Signal Mountain Police Chief, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012, after a long illness.Boyd was born May 19, 1930, in Henegar, Ala. He served the community of Signal Mountain for more than 32 years, rising through the ranks from fire/police officer to Chief of Police. He was an avid bass fisherman and baseball enthusiast, having been a minor league pitcher before entering public service.Boyd is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Sharp Veal; sons, Rick (Vicky) Veal and Boyd (Susan) Veal; daughters from a prior marriage, Patsy Boyd and Carolyn (Ken) Corbin; and eight grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation at www.pdf.org, the Signal Mountain Police Department or Hospice of Chattanooga.Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday at Signal Mountain Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at noon with the Rev.
