Doyle Walker

FORTOGLETHORPE William Doyle Walker, left us for heaven on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was born on July 1, 1938.Doyle had many loves and I, Joyce Waller Walker, was honored to be his wife and main love for fifty years. We met on July 4, 1961 and married a year later. He so loved his children, Jeremy and Jessica, and then Andrea and his grandsons, Dylan and Bryson. He is also survived by sisters, Peggy Delaney and Mary Carlisle; mother-in-law, Louise Waller; brother-in-law, Dale (April) Waller; and sister-in-law, Donna Waller; plus several nieces and nephews.Doyle graduated from Red Bank High School in 1957, two years later from Hiwassee College and was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Thompkins Lodge #466 F&AM and the Chattanooga Scottish Rite Society. Doyle loved his friends at South Seminole Baptist Church where for years he was a greeter and a hugger. After retiring from Velsicol Chemical Corporation in 1998, a favorite activity was taking care of the building for the boys and girls in our church's daycare. Doyle never tired of watching western movies, especially those starring John Wayne. We attended western film festivals all over the southeast region. He also loved to work in our yard, go shark teeth hunting on the beach, and in his later years, he began collecting decorative tin containers. Doyle is enjoying good health for the first time in several years and we are thrilled for him. He will be greatly missed but this is not the end of his story.Funeral services will be held today at 11:30 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Rev. Ted Gocke officiating. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. To share expressions of sympathy, visit his online guestbook at lane-southcrestchapel.com.Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
