Edwin Hammond

ALTAMONT Edwin Wayne Hammond, 76, passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2012.He was a member of Altamont Church of Christ and had been the Minister at the Central Church of Christ in Tracy City. He was a regional vice-president for National Investors Life. He was born in Albany, Ga., on Sept. 28, 1936 were he played football for Albany High School and earned a full football Scholarship to play for the Georgia Bulldogs. His nickname in high school was "Bulldog Hammond".His parents, James Hines Hammond and Mary Alice Laramore Hammond preceded him in death along with his wife, Earlene Evans Speer Hammond; son, Edwin Wayne Hammond Jr.; brothers, Charles L. and James Hammond Jr.; sisters, Eva Laramore, Lucille Kearse.He is survived by his sisters, Martha Knight and Faye Griffin of Georgia; stepchildren, Carl (Lisa) Speer, Knoxville and Michelle (Bill) Lingle, Altamont; granddaughter, Lea Speer; special friend and caregiver, Betty Laskowske (who nursed him through his final illness); and a host of nieces, nephews and loving friends.
