Rickie Barney
Sr.Rickie Clifford Barney, Sr., 57, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 in Jacksonville, Fla. He was born on June 1, 1955 in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Charles and Lillie Barney.He was a 1973 graduate of Riverside High School. Rickie joined the United States Navy and served 20 years of loyal and faithful service as an Aviation Hydraulics Mechanic. Rickie received several distinguish awards including the Navy Achievement Medal , (4) Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Meritorious Unit Commendation with 3 Bronze Stars, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars. After retirement, Rickie, Sr., earned a Specialized Associate Degree from Florida Technical College and began a successful civilian IT career at LSI Inc., an aviation training company in Jacksonville, Fla. He served his community as a Cub Scouts WEBELOS Den Leader Pack 179, Usher and member of the Male Chorus at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church and volunteer for the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) at the General Daniel "Chappie" James Post 4761.He was preceded in death by his son, Rickie Barney, Jr.Rickie Sr., leaves to cherish his memory, his two sons, Eric (Nichole) Barney, Virginia Beach, Va., and Maurice (Atitqua) Robinson, Augusta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Darrell Barney, Dominique Barney, of Chattanooga, EManuel Barney, Ciera Barney, of Virginia Beach, Va., Dashinaye and Jadieana Robinson, of Augusta, Ga., and little Ryan Christopher Barney, of Jacksonville, Fla.; parents, Lillie Cochran, of Chattanooga and Charles Barney, of Meridian, Miss.; siblings, Joseph Barney, Darryl Barney, of Chattanooga, Patricia (Isaac) Washington, Chattanooga, and Delores ( Gary) Burgess, of Stone Mountain, Ga.; a host of nieces, nephews and loyal friends and fianc, Charlene Lawson, of Jacksonville, Fla.A celebration of life will be held at Noon, Monday, Nov. 19, at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Interment National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.The body will lie in state after noon today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
