Jr.Martin Luther "M.L." Thach Jr. passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012 at age 89.M.L. was born in Bridgeport Ala. on May 18, 1923 and raised in Chattanooga.He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII.A longtime resident of the Hixson area, M.L. Retired from Provident Insurance Co. with 35 years of service, and was a former member of Northside Baptist Church. A lifelong lover of jazz, M.L. hosted an evening jazz program on WUTC 88.1 in the 90s.He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Luther Thach Sr. and Martha Lou Van Pool Thach; brothers, Rex Burton, Perry and Phil Thach; sister, Mary Julia Thach; and nephew Bill Thach.M.L. is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlene Ellis Thach; daughters, Becky(Tom) Jetton, Nancy Crane and Ruth (Preston) Gonter, all of Chattanooga; son, Phil Thach, of Ooltewah; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.A short memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. today in the Chapel of Devotion at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, with the honorable Sam Payne officiating.Visit www.heritagefh.com to share words of comfort to the family.The family would like to thank NHC of Chattanooga for their loving care of Mr. Thach.The family will receive friends for one hour following the service.To share memories with the Thach family, please visit www.heritagefh.com.Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga.
