Burma Lee Jones Powell, 84, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Community Care of Rutherford County.Mrs. Powell was born in Fort Payne, Ala., to the late Virgil and Alma Jones and was a longtime resident of Chattanooga. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Chattanooga. She was a graduate of Fort Payne High School and attended Business College in Birmingham, Ala. She was a longtime member and served on the staff of Red Bank Baptist Church in Chattanooga for 40 years.Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Giles Ernest Powell; and sister, Gail Leath.She is survived by her daughter, Pam (Todd) Taylor, of Murfreesboro; grandson, Taylor Lowe, of Murfreesboro; brother-in-law, Lewis "Sonny" Leath, of Gaylesville, Ala.; aunt, Dean Chastain, of Blue Ridge, Ga.; niece, nephews and cousins.Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.In lieu of flowers family ask for donations be made to First Baptist Church Mission Fund or Red Bank Baptist Library.Those wishing may send condolences online at www.murfreesborofuneralhome.com.Murfreesboro Funeral Home, 145 Innsbrooke Blvd., Murfreesboro, Tenn., 615-896-2229.
