Naomi Hines

Naomi Smith Hines, 98, died at a local health care facility Monday, Nov. 26, 2012. She was born Oct. 19, 1914 in Chattanooga to Charles and Carrie Smith.Naomi was a homemaker who loved her family dearly. She came to know the Lord at an early age and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Choir for many years. She later joined Mission Ridge Baptist Church and New United Missionary Baptist Church.Naomi was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, John W. Hines Sr.; son, John W. Hines Jr.; mother, Carrie Smith; brother, Arnold Smith; sisters, Velma Armstrong, Evelyn Gaines, Mildred Gates, Ruth Heath and Gilma McGhee.She is survived by her daughters, Mildred Harris, Chicago, Il, Andrea Howard and Ruth (Herbert) McMillan, Chattanooga; grandchildren, Tonya (Gerald) OGuinn, Gerald (Tamra) Howard, Shanna (Chip) Pasley, Chattanooga, Timothy (Rosa) Harris, Chicago, Ill., Carolyn (George) Morris, Schaumburg, Ill., Don (Courtney) Murphy, San Diego, Calif., Michael Hines, Chattanooga, Johnny (Christie) Hines, Atlanta, Andrea (Chris) Janes, Chicago, Ill.; sister, Carolyn Bolton, Milwaukee, Wis.; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; two devoted persons whom she called her children, Karen Innis Emry and Paul Williams; and a very dear friend, Christine Payne.There will be no visitation.A private committal service will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to a needy family this holiday season.
