Ida Mabe

Ida Kummer Mabe passed away on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012. She was 84 years old.She was born to Oswald and Anna Kummer on Aug. 10, 1928, the youngest of four children. She was raised in Franklin, Ky.She received her bachelors degree in therapeutic dietetics from the University of Kentucky, and served on staff at Vanderbilt Hospital.She married Robert Edgar Mabe, M.D. on Nov. 9, 1951. Ida gave up her career to have children, but remained intensely interested in nutrition all her life. She and Dr. Mabe were happily married for 47 years. During this time Ida volunteered for the Hamilton County Medical Auxiliary and the Signal Mountain Garden Club, and served on several charitable boards.Ida was an active member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. During that time she served as Sunday school teacher for high school students, and then as teacher for the Jones-Carruth class for women, where she taught for 25 years.Ida was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and two brothers, Arnold and Romea Kummer.She is survived by her three daughters: Cindy M. (Arnold) Solomon, of Columbia, Md., Christine M. (Tom) Scott, of Signal Mountain, and Cathy M. (Tony) Pyron, of Signal Mountain; three grandsons, Adam and Asa Solomon and Jordan Pyron; and two granddaughters, Samantha Solomon and Anna Pyron. She is also survived by her sister, Lucy Lilly; her sister-in-law, Nettie Kummer; two nieces, Sandy McKenzie and Trudy Gardner; and one nephew, Christopher Kummer.The family will receive visitors at the Chattanooga Funeral Home (North Chapel) from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012.There will be a private internment, followed by a memorial service at the Marr Chapel of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012.
