Juanita Sheble

Juanita Hughes Sheble, 77, of Chattanooga passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2012.Juanita was raised in the Crow Creek Valley of Middle Tennessee. She once worked for the Winchester Hat Corporation where she inspected the hat worn by President L. B. Johnson during his inauguration. She was also the union representative much dreaded by management and respected by her co-workers for her dedication on their behalf. She achieved certification as a nursing assistant and worked in hospitals and in the private sector as a care giver. In her later years she worked as a childrens advocate in the Hamilton County Court system. Her interests included writing poetry, singing and dancing, and travel. She visited several countries and 40 states. Part of her travels included adventures with the Red Hat Society, of which she was a member of the Rambling Rose Chapter. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She loved and worked hard for her family and was proud of their accomplishments. Mama, we are still your girls.She was preceded in death by her daughter, Velma Marie Stephens; mother, Virgie Marie Crownover Hughes; father, Paul Boyd Hughes, Sr.; brother, Paul Boyd Hughes, Jr.; and her sisters, Nancy Mildred Andes and Elizabeth Ann Hughes. Juanita is survived by her daughters, Paula (Paul) Hurt, Sharon Vess and Daphne Stephens; grandchildren, Michael Sutherland, Quentin Stephens, Chauncey Vess and Leslie (Brent) Mahoney; four great grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth (Elaine) Hughes, Bobby Hughes, Emma Ross (Robert) Aycock and Doug (Lynn) Hughes; and many nieces and nephews; and her former husband and lifelong friend Bob Stephens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. (EST) today, Oct. 1, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends again on Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. (CST) at Rudder Funeral Home, at 45015 Alabama Highway 277 in Stevenson, Alabama. Services for Juanita will be held at 2 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Rudder Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crownover Cemetery in Anderson, Tennessee.
