Harold Murphree Murphree, 101, went to be with the Lord and his loved ones in heaven on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012.He was born on May 20, 1911 in Decatur, Ala., and rode a horse to school in his early years. He was a graduate of Decatur High School and was a small business owner for over 50 years in Chattanooga, where he met his wife of 62 years, Frances Vivian Long. He operated service stations downtown and on Signal Mountain and eventually founded Murphree Honey Co., a processor and wholesaler of honey under the "Dixieland" brand. He lived the last 30 years of his life in the West Knoxville/Farragut area to be near his son and much-loved grandchildren. He was known for his strong singing voice and was a longtime member of Chattanoogas Northside Presbyterian Church.Harold is survived by his son, Mike (Lori) Murphree, of Farragut; a daughter, Kathleen (Terry) Nelson Watrson, of Gainesville, Fla.; and a sister, Mary Nelle Moore, of Ooltewah. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Dr. Richard (Angela) Nelson, of Lithia, Fla., Brent (Ilyana) Nelson of Gainesville, Fla., Tessa (Mark) Morgan, of Knoxville, Adam Murphree, of New York City; and Annie Murphree, of Birmingham, Ala.; six great-grandchildren; Austin Nelson, Brandon Nelson, Michael Nelson, Victoria Maynard, Thomas Maynard and Mark Landon Morgan; and one great-great-grandchild, Christian Nelson.Graveside services will be conducted at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson.
