Douglas Thigpen

Douglas Bloyer Thigpen, 28 years, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at the family farm in Ripley, Ohio.He was born on Dec. 21, 1983 in Chattanooga. He is the son of Carl Douglas Thigpen, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Marsha Bloyer Thigpen, of Peebles, Ohio.He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Carl R. Thigpen, of Tennessee, Stanley F. Bloyer, of Ripley and an uncle; Captain Stan Bloyer, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. In addition to his parents, he is survived by maternal grandmother Ruth W. Bloyer, of Ripley; paternal grandparents Rev. James H. and Betty Stone Patterson, of Chattanooga; one sister, Meghan Thigpen Moss and husband, Steve Moss, of South Pittsburg, Tenn.; two nephews, Carter Moss and Sawyer Moss;, and one aunt, Harma Bos Bloyer, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.He attended RULH and graduated from Lookout Valley High School in 2002. He received a degree in Aviation, Airframe and Powerplant from Great Oaks Institute Wilmington, Ohio, in 2005. He had been employed by AMD Aviation of West Palm Beach, Fla., and had recently relocated to Ohio to begin flight training. Cremation is to take place and private graveside services will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga, at a later date.Memorial donations may be made to the Ripley Fire Department, 119 Waterworks Road Ripley, Ohio 45167, or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
