Randy Rowan

Randall Jim Rowan, 52, of Hixson went to be with his Lord on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012. Upon his profession of faith as a teenager, Randy was baptized at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Oneonta, Ala. He continued his Christian walk throughout his life and was a Christian witness to those who were fortunate to know him. He and his wife, Pam, were members of Red Bank Baptist Church where they met in the Singles Department, fell in love and were married for 19 years. After working for Red Food Stores, Randy completed his college education and followed his God-called profession to teach school. He began his 20 year teaching career at Brainerd Middle followed by 21st Century Academy before retiring from Soddy-Daisy Middle School due to his health where he taught 8th grade history and was a baseball coach. He was a wonderful teacher and also had a profound influence on both students and fellow teachers throughout his career. He was a member of NEA, TEA, HCEA and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was honored with the Hamilton County Board of Education Teaching Excellence Award in 2003.Randy was predeceased by his father, Buford Rowan.Survivors include his wife, Pamela Sherrill Rowan; daughters, Katie Rowan Fahm and Skylar of Fort Riley, Kan., and Jessica Mowery, of Orlando, Fla.; mother, Delories Rowan Coleman, of Fort Oglethorpe; brother, Wade (Sherry) Rowan, of Soddy-Daisy; sister, Paige (Anthony) Currie, of Tunnel Hill, Ga.; special nieces and nephews, Jacob, Kristin, Erin and Micayla Rowan, of Soddy-Daisy and Cole, Gabriel and Caleb Currie, of Tunnel Hill; mother-in-law, Josephine Sherrill; sister-in-law, Pat Gilbert; brother-in-law, Marion (Doris) Sherrill, of Chattanooga; special "little brother" Bill (Deborah) Holland, of Cleveland, as well as many aunts, uncle and cousins who reside in his "Home Sweet Alabama."The family will receive friends from noon-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Red Bank Baptist Church. A celebration of his life will be conducted by the Reverends Sam Greer and Bill Harvey at 6 p.m. at the church.Interment will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery, 736 1st Avenue East, Oneonta, Alabama Saturday, Oct. 27, at noon EST.Special thanks go to the doctors and staff of Dr. Larry Schlabach, Dr. Frank Kimsey and Dr. Michael Gallagher along with the staffs at Hospice of Chattanooga and NHC Healthcare of Chattanooga for the excellent care given to Randy throughout his battle with brain cancer.
