Luther Hulgan

Luther Dean Hulgan, 89, of Chattanooga, passed away from this life Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012. He was born Jan. 21, 1923 in Valley Head, Ala. He lived in Valley Head, Ala., for 20 years, and lived in Chattanooga for 69 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 426th MP Escort Guard at Ft. Custer, MI, Herford, TX, and Clovis, N.M., and serving in the 1685th Engr Combat Battalion in the South Pacific and occupied Japan. He was self employed for 50 years.Mr. Hulgan was preceded in death by parents, Jesse Marvin Hulgan and Ethel Dean Hulgan, of Valley Head, Ala.; two brothers, Preston Wesley, and John Mike; four sisters, Lara Ann Humble, Pearl Liliane Dunlap, Jesse Belle Killingsworth, Ethel Cleo Kirk; two nephews; and three nieces. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Tobey Jones Hulgan; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Alan and Martha Hulgan, Byron and Sheryl Hulgan; four grandchildren, James (Gretchen) Hulgan, Brent Hulgan, Kristin Hulgan, and Rebecca Hulgan (Todd) Banus; two great-grandchildren Harrison Jones Hulgan and Laurel Anne Banus; brother Willie Hartford Hulgan, nieces, and nephews.Contributions may be made to charitable organizations of your choice.Family will receive friends today from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, at 404 S. Moore Road, East Ridge, Tennessee.Mr. Hulgan was of Christian faith. His funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 11, in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, with Rev.
