ROSSVILLE Barbara Ann Alt, 74, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, in a local hospital. She was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. and moved to the Chattanooga area in 1972.Barbara was a wonderful mother, a great friend and a gifted educator.A graduate of UTC and Berry College, education was important to her. Perhaps the happiest years of her life were the 17 years she spent teaching at LaFayette Middle School. She loved her students and the close bonds she had with her colleagues at LMS.Survivors are son Bill and his wife, Tara Alt, of Mckinney, Texas; daughters, Elizabeth Alt and fiance, Jim Horton, of Ocala, Fla., and Barbara Alt and fiance, Troy Williams, of Red Bank; brother, John Hickey and his wife, Eva, of the Villages, Fla.; grandchildren, Caroline and Emily Alt and Tucker Williams; and her constant companion her beloved dog Mickey.Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Father Liam Coyne officiating.Visit www.heritagefh.com to share words of comfort with the family.The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
