CHICKAMAUGA The Rev. William "Bill" Casteel, 84, went home to be with the Lord Thursday evening, April 18, 2013.He was born in Cleveland, Tenn., to the late Luther "Luke" and Jewell Prueitt Casteel. He was a former employee with TVA and had also worked with several local contractors. He was a member of the Painters Local Union #226.He has served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir director, pastor, Interim pastor and Fill-In Pastor for numerous churches in the Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama areas. The Baptist Churches he mainly served were Old Bethel, New Friendship, both in Chickamauga, Mount Vernon in Tunnel Hill, New Lookout and Ascalon, both on Lookout Mountain, Ga., Midway in Fort Oglethorpe, and Harmony Grove in Bridgeport, Ala.. He was a current member of Old Bethel Baptist Church where he was a member of the Mens Sunday School Class. He loved The Lord, his church and his family. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, quail hunting, watching the Atlanta Braves and the Tennessee Volunteers. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Anna Mae Womack Casteel; sisters, Agnes Moore and Claudine Barton; brother, Edward Casteel.He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years: Barbara Bradley Casteel, of Chickamauga; their children, Stanley (Marcia) Casteel, of Chattanooga, David (Debbie) Casteel, of Chickamauga, Richard (Regina) Casteel, of LaFayette, Ga., Janice (Tommy) Holcombe, of Ooltewah, Debbie (Kenneth) Brown, of Flintstone, Ga.; sisters, Pauline Burnette, of Kingston, Tenn., Pat (Dave) Casteel Booth, Teresa (Don) Casteel Bradford; brother, Steve (Betty) Casteel, all of Athens, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends after 1 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Old Bethel Baptist Church in Chickamauga, with the Rev. Wilton Grimes and the Rev. Steve Camp officiating.Burial will follow at Chickamauga Cemetery, Chickamauga, with the Rev. Kenneth Brown and the Rev. Wayne Casteel officiating.Arrangements are by W.L.
