Eunice Cathy

Eunice Buckner Cathy, 88, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013.She was born in Shady Dale, Ga. in 1924 to the late Edgar Harrison and Emma Ethel Linch Buckner.After her parents died when she was a child, she lived with her uncle Carl Linch and his wife Myrtle in Milledgeville, Ga. They moved to Chattanooga in the late 1930s. Eunice was in the first graduating class of Red Bank High School in 1941. She later earned a degree in accounting from Chattanooga State. Much of her early working career was at Railway Express Co., and later she was employed at TVA in Power Accounting. Many of her retirement years were spent enjoying friends at The Continental where she lived. She was a longtime member of Red Bank Baptist Church and a member of the Snyder Sunday School Class.She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ben Cathy; three sisters, Edith (Warren) Smith, Sue (Arthur) Ellis, Elizabeth Louise Buckner; and two brothers, Harry (Elaine) Buckner, Durwood (Jane) Buckner; three nephews and one niece.She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Ron) Patch; grandchildren, Ben (Julia) Patch, all of Chattanooga, Mary (Brian) Brookshire; and great-grandchild, Clara Brookshire, of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Jane Buckner, of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Gladys Garr; brother-in-law, Truett (Jeannette) Cathy, of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today, April 23, at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace, with Bill Harvey officiating.Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Atlanta at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Dr. Charles Q. Carter officiating.The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-7 p.m. today, April 22. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Bank Baptist Library, 4000 Dayton Boulevard, Chattanooga 37415, or to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen, 727 E. 11th Street, Chattanooga 37403.
