Mildred Ammons

Mildred Elizabeth Ewton Ammons passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at her home in Conyers, Ga. She was 86. Mildred was born in Sequatchie Valley, Tenn., near the town of Dunlap, the daughter of the late William and Ruth Ewton.She was also preceded in death by her husband, John M. Ammons Jr. to whom she was married for 29 years before his death in 1977; sister, Anna Lee Harmon; great-grandson, Devon Ammons.Mildred is survived by her sons, Bruce, Rod and Phil Ammons; daughters-in-law, Sheryl and Cindy; grandchildren, Jon, Daniel, Abby, Emily, Jacob and Kristy; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Caitlyn and Ryland; sisters, Lorene Evans, Evelyn Wilkes, Marie Smith, Gertrude Narramore; brother, Charles Ewton; several nieces and nephews.Mildred was a stay at home mother for many years, then owned and operated a family retail business after her husbands death, and then worked at Macys in Atlanta for several years before retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Conyers and of the Ruth Sunday School Class.The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home, funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.Arrangements are by Turner Funeral Home Inc., Highway 58 Chapel, 622-3171
