Robert Irwin

Rev. KNOXVILLE Rev. Robert Lynn Irwin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, St. Marys, following a long illness.Rev. Irwin retired from ministry in the United Methodist Church after 55 years, both before and after his retirement. He served as pastor of churches from Wilminton, N.C. to Sacramento, Calfi., mostly in Holston Conference. He was chaplain and assistant professor of religion and ethics at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn. He volunteered for Interfaith Hospitality Network (Family Promise) from 1995 through 2003, starting networks in 26 cities across the USA, which found homes for over 2500 families.He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ola Irwin; brother, Russell Irwin Handley; and sister, Betty Irwin.He is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Jane Martin Irwin; his daughter, Amy Irwin Toney, of Johnson City, Beth Irwin (Keith) Morgan, of Chattanooga, and son, Robert Martin Irwin, of Knoxville; grandchildren, Jeremiah Toney, of Asheville, N.C., Jordan Toney, of Johnson City, Christin Maynor Arnold (Dion), of Chattanooga, Joey Maynor, of Chattanooga and Kayla (Devin) Moore, of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Colston and Chloe Arnold, of Chattanooga. Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Toney, Jordan Toney, Joey Maynor, and Devin Moore. Service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, the 28th of April, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, on Plummer Drive in Knoxville, Rev. Bill Kilday and the Rev.
