Phillip Adkins

Phillip Ervin Adkins, 80, of Harrison, formerly of Scott County, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2013 in Hixson.Born in Winfield, Tenn., on Feb. 4, 1933, he was the son of the late Francis and Bessie Lawson Adkins.After graduating from Oneida High School, Phillip served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received his undergraduate degree from Williamsburg College in Kentucky and his masters in chemistry from Southern Mississippi University. He taught high school in Fairborn, Ohio, then retired from teaching and moved to Chattanooga, where he devoted his time to breeding and raising Labrador Retrievers.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Jean Linger and Jo Ann Thompson.He is survived by his brother, Robert Adkins, of Winfield, Tenn.; sister, Shirley McCreary, of Astor, Fla.; nephews, Mike Meadors, of Jacksonville, Fla., Chris Smith, of Covington, Ky., and Doug Linger, of Georgetown, Ky.; nieces, Cyndi White, of Oneida, Tenn., and Bonnie Beckman, of Cincinnati, Ohio; many other relatives and friends.Friends may visit with the Adkins family on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 11 a.m. until time of the memorial service at noon in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home, Oneida.Interment will follow in Adkins Cemetery in Winfield.You may sign Mr. Adkins online guestbook at www.jonesandsonfh.net.Jones & Son Funeral Home is serving the family of Phillip Ervin Adkins.
