CHICKAMAUGA Thurman Eugene Stansell, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, in Gainesville, Fla.Mr. Stansell was born March 10, 1933 in Villanow, Ga., and worked as a fit-up mechanic for ABB (Combustion Welding) for 30 years. He was an active member of the Gospel Tabernacle in Chickamauga for 55 years and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, working on his farm, fishing, and talking about his relationship with the Lord with anyone who would listen. Thurman was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was preceded in death by his parents, Roe and Ethel Stansell, brothers, B.F. and Homer Stansell; and sisters, Dessie Gobie, Dorothy Neal and Vera Ogle.Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Martha Stansell; son, Michael Payne, of Dublin, Ohio; daughters, Shelva Morrisette, of Rock Spring, Ga., Donna Stansell, of Gainesville, Fla.; sister, Montyne Collins, of Rocky Face, Ga.; sister-in-law, Jewel Stansell, of LaFayette, Ga.; eight grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gospel Tabernacle Assembly of God, 1661 Highway 27, Chickamauga, Ga., with Pastor Rob Kosch officiating.Burial will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.The family wishes to thank the Gospel Tabernacle for the love and support they have shown as well as the York Care Center of Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida for their kindness and tender care.
