Carl Griffith

Carl Edward Griffith, "Candyman", 77, of Chattanooga passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, in a local hospital.He was born Jan. 1, 1936 in Portersville, Ala., to the late Willis and Ruby Griffith.Mr. Griffith a Navy Veteran and was retired from TVA and Combustion after many years of service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as janitor for 35 years.He was an avid gardener and will long be remembered for his vegetable and rose gardens.His sister, Lucille Griffith preceded him in death.Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Flora Griffith; sons, Ricky (Donna) Griffith and Randy (Teresa) Griffith, of Hixson; daughter, Lori (Dean) Tatum, of Acworth, Ga.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, J.W. (Pat) Griffith, of Rossville; sisters, Barbara (Doyal) Jordan, of Odenville, Ala.; Carolyn (Gary) Basewell and Bobbie Hart, of Gallant, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today Aug. 6, in the North Chapel with the Rev. Dwight Martin and the Rev. Ron Bishop officiating.Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors. The grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, P.O.
