Beverly Glaze

Beverly Lauper Glaze, 96, after a wonderful life filled with joy and chocolate quietly left our world to be welcomed home by God on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013.She was born Sept. 12, 1916, in Nashville, Tenn. to Marvin and Marie Comstock. She was the young bride of Thomas Hutton Lauper, who died suddenly in 1964. After mourning him for several years, she found love again and married Gene Glaze in 1980, who preceded her in death in 1998.Beverly left her mark on our world as she was much beloved by her neighbors, church and family, and even at 96, could turn the most remarkable southern charm on any man of any age. Until a stroke in March 2013, she thrived on attention, gossip, chocolate, and especially playing with small dogs. She was fondly known for her thrifty ways and precocious personality, which was enhanced by remarkable blue eyes and a dimpled smile. In late 2012, at the age of 96, she was pulled over by a bemused sheriff's officer for causing a tremendous traffic jam when she drove a golf cart down a major Florida highway for 15 miles. The poor officer was so completely charmed by Ms. Beverly, he didn't have the heart to issue her a citation. She was preceded in death by her two husbands and one granddaughter, Kathryn "Kathy" Smith Yu, who passed earlier this year and is sorely missed. She is survived by her three daughters, Patricia "Pat" Lauper Smith, Nashville, Peggy Lauper Anderson, Riverview, Fla., and Susan Lauper Britton, Chattanooga, as well as her two sons-in-law, James "Bud" Anderson, Riverview, Fla., and James "Johnny" Britton, Chattanooga, both of whom she adored. In fact, she and Bud shared a bond so touching that in their hearts, they were truly mother and son. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Shields Smith, Thomas "Tom" Smith, Tracye Smith Bulger, Robin Anderson O'Malley, James "Jim" Anderson, Teresa "Terri" Anderson, James "Jay" Harbin and Becky Harbin Harris; numerous great-grandchildren; and even two great-great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Elizabeth Carnes, of Soddy-Daisy and Sydney Lynn O'Malley, of Fort Riley, Kan.Visitation will be at the Chattanooga Funeral Home (North Chapel) on Friday, Aug. 9, from noon to 2:30, with services following at 2:30 p.m.Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Riverview, Florida. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com.Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
