Edith Peak

Edith Elizabeth Hardwick Peak, of Chattanooga, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at a local hospital.She was the seventh of eight siblings born in Cleveland, Tenn. Sept. 23, 1921 to the late Estella and Mose Henry Hardwick.Edith received her early education in Cleveland, Tenn. and a B.S. degree from Tennessee State University, further study through extension courses fro University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She was a graduate of Dermis Cura Beauty School.She was a retired school social worker, member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Retired Teachers, Association of School Social Workers, Association Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, board member of E. Fifth Street Day Care Center and Red Cross Volunteer.She was a member of Bethel AME Church where she served as a choir member, treasurer of the Church General Fund, usher and steward board member.With pleasant memories to cherish, she leaves a son, William Gail Peak Jr.; grandson, Rahsaan G. Peak; granddaughter-in-law, Janet W. Peak; great-granddaughter, S. Maya Gail and Morgan James; sisters, Reba H. Halburton and Moselynne H. Travis; several nieces, nephews, cousins. Extended family: Willie Haslerig, Molly and Tom Harrison; godchildren, Glen and Sarah Chambers, Candice Moss, Joe and Margaret White, Jody White and Kim White Johnson and Rodney Johnson; dearest friends, Virginia McClellan, Julliette Brown, Evelyn Shropshire, May Tull, of Chattanooga and Willa Martin, of NashvilleFuneral service will be at noon Friday, Aug. 9, at Bethel AME Church with Rev. Alan Jay Holman officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to funeral service at the church.Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority will conduct their services on Friday.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Bethel AMEChurch.Arrangements by Hardwick Sons Funeral Home.
