Fred Fassnacht

Jr.Fred E. Fassnacht Jr., 86, longtime Chattanooga businessman, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, following a lengthy illness.He was the last surviving grandson of Andrew and Louise Wegelin Fassnacht. Andrew Fassnacht founded A. Fassnacht & Sons in 1874. Mr. Fassnacht went on to found and operate Fassnacht Bus Sales and Fassnacht Properties along with his father Fred E. Fassnacht Sr.He attended Missionary Ridge, Brainerd Junior and City High School. He was a business graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific during both WW II and the Korean Conflict.He was a past member of the Sertoma Club.He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred E. and Grace Spencer Fassnacht; sister, Carolyn Preston; and his beloved wife of 55 years, Bettye.Survivors include his sister, Martha F. Bird, of Maryville; sons, Fred and David; granddaughter, Cassidy; great-grandson, James, all of Florida. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and an abundance of close friends.The family would like to express their gratitude to his many friends who assisted in his care and visitation during the last few months of his life.Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at the funeral home. Graveside Services will follow at 2 p.m. on Friday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson with Rev.
