Effie Merritt

Effie G. Merritt 100, of Ooltewah, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at a local health care facility.She was born on Jan. 29, 1913, and was a 1931 graduate of Tyner High School.She retired as a Supervisor from the Tennessee Tuberculosis Hospital and was a member of Ooltewah United Methodist Church.Effie had a tremendous love for flowers and animals.She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Price Merritt and several siblings.Survivors include her son, Glenn DeLashmitt, Jr., of Cleveland, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Connie DeLashmitt (Kenny) Brooks, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Crystal DeLashmitt (Keith) Perry, of Hixson, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren, Nathan (Christel) Brooks, Cody Brooks, Chandler Brooks, Skyla Perry, Jayda Perry; two great-great grandchildren, Cooper Brooks, Brantley Brooks; sister, Louise Shirley, of Ringgold, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday Sept. 1, in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Amos Taj officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.The family will receive friends from Noon to 2 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.Arrangements by Chattanooga Funeral Home, Valley View Chapel, 7414 Old Lee Highway, Chattanooga, TN.
