James "J.R." Ricketts, 60, of Chattanooga passed away Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at a local hospital. He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and was a United States Army Veteran with the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Lookout Mountain United Methodist Church, the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 203, American Legion Post 95, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Chapter 3679. His passions in life were his family, barbequing, and always lending a helping hand to those in need. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ricketts; children, Sonya (John) Crowder, of Hixson, Tenn., and Jason (Bridget) Ricketts, of Trenton, Ga.; mother, Wagie McEwen, of Hixson, Tenn.; brother, Billy Cunningham; sisters, Brenda (Grady) Mathis, Glenda (David ) Hawkins, Helen (Vernon) Thrumond , and Debbie (Teddy) Keedy; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
