Amanda Wynn

Amanda Ann Wynn, 75, of Hixson, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, in a Nashville hospital after a valiant fight with breast cancer. A resident of Hixson for the past 44 years, Mrs. Wynn was a native of Bradley County. She received English degrees from both Tennessee Tech and Virginia Tech. After 28 years as an English professor at Chattanooga State Community College, she retired in 1999 and was honored in 2010 with the Bill Doster Distinguished Service Award from the Southeast Two-Year College English Association. During her tenure at the college, she helped to establish the Chattanooga State Honors Program, serving as its director for several years. She was one of the founding members of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Hixson, where she served on the Altar Guild for many years and was active in Episcopal Church Woman, most recently serving as treasurer and as a member of the nursery committee. She loved travel, good books, crossword puzzles, and her many friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert "Bob" Wynn; and parents, Hazel Lee and Mae Belle Murray, formerly of Venice, Florida. She is survived by her brother, Paul Murray, Venice; her daughter, Beth Wynn Riner, Murfreesboro, Tennessee; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Carol Jaeger Wynn, Kings Mills, Ohio; four grandchildren, Claire Riner, Alex Riner, R.J. Wynn, and David Wynn; and one great-grandchild, Emma Kate Riner. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Mark Bigley officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. before the service on Saturday. Following interment of her ashes in St. Alban's Memorial Garden, a short reception will be held in Wynn Hall, the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to St. Alban's Memorial Garden.
