John Bryant Erwin III, 62, of Hixson, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. He was a graduate of Hixson High School Class of 1968 and earned a bachelor of science in education from UTC. He was an adult education teacher at Chattanooga State College. He was a talented musician who brought joy to many lives through his music and was a long time pianist at Delashmitt Road Baptist Church. John was an individual who marched to the beat of his own drum. He was known for his quick wit and practical jokes. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Sara Erwin and Fred and Veda Maddox. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Elkins Erwin; daughter, Gabrielle Erwin; parents, John and Estella Erwin; brother, Gary (Sonia) Erwin; sister, Donna Woolwine; sister-in-laws: Janice Haney and Donna Highers; nieces: Lindsay Love, Meghan Erwin, Christy (Jeff) Patterson and Tiffany Highers; nephews: Christopher Highers, Alex Patterson, Jimbo Haney; great-nieces, Makayla Love and Kelsey Walker; great-nephews: Malachi and Bryson Love; adopted son, Patrick Craft; adopted grandchildren, Thomas and Anna Raines; and best friend, Kim Wheatley. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Delashmitt Road Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
