Martha Carter Thatcher, of Lookout Mountain, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at age 96. Martha was the daughter of Matt L. Carter and Nancy Martin Carter. She grew up in Chattanooga and graduated from Chattanooga High School and attended the University of Chattanooga. She was married 62 years to Richard "Dick" C. Thatcher Jr. who preceded her in death. Her brother, Matt L. Carter Jr., of St. Petersburg, Fla., also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Junior League of Chattanooga and the Garden Club of Lookout Mountain for which she served as president. For years she was co-manager of the Hunter Museum Gift Shop, a volunteer job she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities involving the Women of the Church. Martha was a talented and knowledgeable floral arranger and spent many happy hours studying the art of floral design and created beautiful arrangements for her church, her family and friends. She was also a wonderful cook, never more content than in her element of making a meal for a family or a dish to take to an ailing friend. She enjoyed traveling both in the States and abroad. She is survived by her sons, Richard C. Thatcher III and wife, Marie, of Lookout Mountain, William Carter Thatcher and wife, Gladys, of Barquisemeto, Venezuela and Atlanta, and Albert Garrett Thatcher and wife, Nita, of Rocky Face, Ga. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Richard C. (Suzanne) Thatcher IV, of Atlanta, Carter Everett (Elizabeth) Thatcher, of Chattanooga, Sandra Thatcher (Mike) Burnett, of Cumming, Ga., Christopher (Maria) Thatcher, of Alpharetta, Ga., William (Nathaly) Thatcher, of Norcross, Ga., Richard Thatcher of Barquisemeto, Venezuela and Hayley Thatcher (Jon) Likovitz, of Richland, Ga. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. There will be a visitation from 11 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Church of The Good Shepherd on Lookout Mountain. A private burial will be held in the memory garden at the church. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Lookout Mountain Beautification Fund, P.O.
