Thomas Nelson Gordy Sr., 89, a lifelong resident of Rock Spring, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2013. He was a member of Mission Glen Baptist Church, a World War II Veteran having served as a Navy Signalman First Class aboard the USS San Francisco. He retired from Chris-Craft Incorporated. He was preceded in death by his son, James Henry Gordy; parents, Ethel and Joe Gordy; brothers, Earl and Jack Gordy; sisters, Mary Jo and Maxine Gordy; Dotsie Tate and Betty Haslerig; brother-in-law, Richard Haslerig; and granddaughters, Mindy and Mandy Gordy. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Charlene Skipper Gordy; four children, Connie Smith, Tommy (Tresa) Gordy, Dixie (Steve) Wells and Kathy (Sam) Cline; grandchildren, Katie Martin, Josh (Amy) Martin, Erin (Zach) Reynolds, Julie Gordy, Melissa Wells and Stacy Wells; great-grandson, Jayden Gordy; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at noon Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ricky Studdard officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Wells officiating.
