Jim Boatman

Jim Boatman James Darwin (Jim) Boatman Sr., 82, of East Brainerd went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013. A longtime resident of Chattanooga, Jim was raised in Chickamauga, Ga., as a youth, and a 1948 graduate of Gordon Lee High School, where he was the Captain of the football team. He was retired electrician from Dupont after 35 years of service. Jim was formerly a coach in the East Brainerd Youth League for many years and was an avid golfer, bowler and Georgia Tech football fan. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was a member of Boynton Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Clarice Boatman and sisters, Jere Lazar and Deloris Wiggins. Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Pat Wilson Boatman; son, Darwin (Andrea) Boatman, Ooltewah and daughter, Darla (Tim) Patty, Chattanooga; grandchildren, Ryan and Brett Boatman, Jordan and Lindsay Patty; brother, Homer and Carolyn Boatman, East Ridge; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Keith McLeod and the Rev. T.D. Burgess officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers.
