Iris Manette Grace Adams, 100, of Hixson, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013. She was born in Mayfield, Ky., on July 12, 1913, the daughter of Kenton Grace and Johnie Holbrook Grace. She completed her schooling in Mayfield and married Rev. William G. Adams on Dec. 25, 1936. They served in Methodist Churches in several West Kentucky and West Tennessee towns including Mayfield, Lowes, Lone Oak, Fulton, Martin, Raleigh and Paducah. She excelled in needlework, housekeeping, finances, cooking and antique furniture restoration. Manette had a great love for children, flowers, birds and quilting. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Wellington Place, an assisted living facility in Hixson. Preceding her in death are her parents, Kenton and Johnie Grace; her only sister, Johnie Grace Brooks; and daughters-in-law, Beverly Cursey Adams and Bettye Jennings Adams. She is survived by three sons, Lt. Col. William Kenton Adams, of New Jersey, Dr. Earl (Judy) Adams, of Hixson and Walter Wayne Adams, of Memphis; five grandchildren, Dr. Stephen (Debbie) Adams, of Hixson, Dr. David Adams, of Auburn, Ala., Dr. Julie (Scott) Steinmann, of Rochester, Minn., Jennifer (Chris) Rogers, of New Jersey and Tracey (Patrick) Terry, of Memphis; and eight great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters. Services will be held on at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joe Guthrie officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be on at 2 p.m. EST Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Trinity Cemetery in Mayfield, Ky., beside her beloved husband, parents and sister.
