Elbert Griffith

Elbert Griffith, 93, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 at his home surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Lee and Maude Griffith; brothers, Otis Lee Griffith, Isaac Ellis Griffith, Arnold "Cotton" Griffith; sisters, Oma Griffith, Olus Scissom, Avis Worley. Mr. Griffith served in the Army Air Force, worked as a coal miner and retired from Firestone Tire. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 72 years, Hannah Griffith; two sons, Elbert Ellis Griffith, of Knoxville, Arlie Elvin Griffith, of Whitwell; sisters, Ollie Tate, Agnes Scissom, Martha Kilgore and Iva Levan; four grandchildren, Michael Griffith, Lee Griffith, Donna Griffith, Kimberly Lippmann; great grandchildren, Ashley Griffith, Tristan Lippmann, Sydney Lippmann, Michael Griffith, Sophia Griffith; great great grandchild, Samuel Griffith; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Family will receive friends 3-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2013. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hershel Powell and the Rev. Cecil Baxter officiating. Internment at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard.
