Jesse E. Carr, 95, of Chattanooga passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013. He was a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church. Jesse was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served 33 months in Iran with the Railroad Battalion. He was retired as a swithchman from Southern Railway and had been in labor relations with their union. Jesse was a member of the Chattanooga Lodge #199 F&AM for over 70 years, the Order of the Eastern Star and Southern Railway Retirees. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Truman Carr, Toby Carr and J. B. Carr; and a sister, Fannie Ruth Liner. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Maxine Carr; two half-sisters, Lillian Matthews, of Darby, Pa., and Rose Lyle, of Cleveland, Tenn.; one half sister and spouse, Patsy and Charles Burger, of Calhoun, Tenn.; one half brother, Billy "Jake" Carr, of Calhoun, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in the Chapel of Devotion with Dr. Charles Neal and Dr. David Harr officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. today at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 S. Moore Road, East Ridge.
