James Holder, Jr.

James G. Holder, Jr., 89, of Chattanooga, Tenn., passed away on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013. He was born June 23, 1924. He was a member of Bayside Baptist Church and formerly a member of E. Chattanooga Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and trustee. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific, participating in the battle of Okinawa. He retired from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department and from the U. S. Postal Service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Lowe Holder; son, Ronny Holder; his parents, James G. and Myrtle Gamble Holder; brother Clyde Holder; and sister Katherine Holder. He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Holder Manning, of Hixson; children Jim (Sherri) Holder, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Janet (Bob) Swofford, of Harrison, Tenn., Rick (Tricia) Holder of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and daughter-in-law Jayne Holder, of Harrison, Tenn. He is survived by nine grandchildren, Chris and Todd Richardson, Mark, Matt, Derrick, and Andy Holder, Kelli Holder Donnelly, Amy Holder Gailey and Julie Holder Powell, as well as 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 30, at Noon in the Hwy 58 chapel of Turner Funeral Home or you may visit our online guestbook at www.turnerfamilyfuneralhome.com The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Monday at Turner Funeral Home, Webb Road, Chattanooga, TN. The Rev. Eric Stitts will officiate. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
