Bob Batson

Robert Joseph Batson Sr., 95, died peacefully at his home Tuesday morning, Feb. 5, 2013.Born in Erin, Tenn., he faithfully served his God, Country (veteran of the Navy), family, and community. He was the founder of Old Plantation Barbecue, and known to many as Mr. B. He was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church and member of the Half Century Club. He enjoyed travelling, telling stories, and helping others.He was preceded in death by his parents, James Steven and Flora Shemwell Batson; wife, Evelyn Dickinson Batson; infant daughter, Jane Evelyn Batson; and sister, Juanita Batson Byer.He is survived by his two sons: Robert J. Batson Jr., and James Allen (Susan) Batson; grandchildren, Laurel Batson (Jim) Boles, Robert J. (Jane) Batson III and Todd Allen (Lauren) Batson; great-grandchildren, Ashley Boles, Brett Boles, Christopher Boles, Jack Batson, Sara Catherine Batson, Walker Batson and Whit Batson; nephews, Ben Byer and Steve Byer.The family will receive friends noon-2 p.m. today, Feb. 8, 2013, at Rivermont Presbyterian Church followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Diane Stocker officiating.Burial will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.The family expresses sincere appreciation to Susan Roden and Hospice of Chattanooga.
