Minnie Ownby

CLEVELAND Minnie Ruth Ownby, 85, passed away on Saturday morning, Feb. 9, 2013, at her residence.Minnie was born on May 23, 1927 a daughter of the late Shurden and Jonnie Collins and had made Cleveland her home for the past several years. She worked for several years for the Buster Brown Co. and then later retired from the Bi-Lo stores of Chattanooga. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed attending her church. When Minnie was able, she was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed watching her favorite player Chipper Jones.In addition to her parents Minnie was preceded in death by husbands, Hubert H. Ownby and Bill Henegar; one son, Terry D. Ownby; one sister, Ida Jean Nethkin; and four brothers, Ellis Collins, James Hoyt Collins, Billy Don Collins and Chester Collins.Minnie leaves behind to cherish her memory two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Sharon Ownby and Tracy and Teena Ownby; two brothers, Shurden (Bell) Collins and Johnny (Brenda) Collins; two sisters, Audrey Graham and Brenda (Lamar) Benton; eight grandchildren, Nikki Ownby, Chad Ownby, John Taylor, Jody Woody, Jami Cofer, Dee Dempsey, Erica Thomas and Jamie Beckler; several great-grandchildren, and numerous other extended family members and friends.A celebration of her life is planned for 7 p.m. today, Feb. 12, 2013, at Philippi Baptist Church located at 2325 Old Harrison Pike NW in Cleveland, with the Dr. Sammy Hooker officiating.
