Ruth Eden Smith, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away at her residence on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, after an illness.Mrs. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church and the Courtney-Parks Sunday School Class. She was a dedicated homemaker. She spent more than 30 years volunteering at Erlanger and also volunteered with Chattanooga Community Kitchen.She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin H. Smith Jr.; and her parents, Carlton and Phyllis Eden.Surviving are her two sons, Steve Smith, of Chattanooga and Terry Smith and his wife, Beth, of Tupelo, Miss.; two granddaughters, Lindsay Abbott and her husband, Brad, of Anderson, S.C. and Lauren Miller and her husband Cooper, of Atlanta, Ga.; and cousins, Coralie (Everette) Humphrey and Gailya (Ken) Hall.Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today, Feb. 17, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Chattanooga, 401 Gateway Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37402.Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the church with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry officiating.Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson.Please share your condolences at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com.Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
