Harry Jarrett

Harry E. "Sonny" Jarrett, 74, of Chattanooga, quietly passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, surrounded by his family.He was the son of the late James L. Jarrett and Mildred Blair Jarrett of Cleveland Tenn. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Cleveland.He was preceded in death by his sisters, Corneilia (Charlie) Walton, Marcella (Otis) Lane and Joann (James) Parker.He leaves to cherish his memories his companion in life, Lana Harris; sons, Ronald Whaley, of Cleveland Tenn., Tracey Jarrett, Alonzo (Warisa) Jarrett, of Chattanooga, and Corey (Tamika) Jarrett, of Atlanta; daughters, Tara Jarrett and Mildred Jarrett, of Chattanooga; three brothers, Wayne (Sharon) Jarrett, of Charleston, Tenn., Kenneth Jarrett and Allen Jarrett, of Cleveland.; sisters, Charlotte George, Nina George, Phyllis Tucker and Carol Dunn, all of Cleveland, Reba Cox, of Chicago, Ill., and Deborah (Johnny) Pitner, of Minneapolis, Minn .; also his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great-grandnieces, nephews, other relative and friends.Harry grew up in a Christian Family and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. After serving in the United States Army, he was employed with the Chattanooga Police Department for 22 years, from which he retired, and was later employed as a Chattanooga Court Officer.Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at 914 Park Ave., where the Rev. Reginald Poindexter is the Pastor. Rev. Martha Tibbs of Christian Fellowship Center will be the Eulogist.Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.The body will lie in state after noon today and the family will receive friends this evening from 67:30 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, 423-622-9995.
