Glenda Wheeler

NASHVILLE Glenda Wheeler, 75, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, after an extended illness.Surviving are her two sons, Alfred, of Rossville, and Robert and Lorraine, of Arlington, Mass.; grandson, Alex (the apple of her eye), of Arlington, Mass.; and sister, Joanna "Toots" Roe, of Signal Mountain. Glenda will be remembered as a beloved mother and grandmother, loving sister, supportive and respected colleague and friend.Glenda, who was born in Calhoun, Ga., was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Gay Bunch Roe; and grandparents, Milton and Dixie Roe, and Chesley and Joanah Muse.Glendas career began as an office assistant with the FBI Washington Field Office, to becoming a professional legal secretary with a prestigious Chattanooga law firm. While a legal secretary, Glenda also served as an active member and president of the Chattanooga Legal Secretaries Association. Glendas career as a claims adjuster and supervisor in the Nashville area spanned many years. As a supervisor, Glenda became both a personal and professional mentor, well respected, admired, and loved by colleagues. The family wishes to thank those who have supported Glenda in celebrating life in the manner in which she wished, respecting her wishes and independence. She continued to do things her way; enjoying good food and company at the Waffle House (Donelson Pike), Country Cafe and Monells; enjoying talking with Alex and shopping for his favorite things; sharing her sons' achievements and exploits and her sister's adventures with her friends and colleagues; supporting her favorite NASCAR driver (Dale Jr.) and NFL player (Peyton); maintaining friendships with Jim Croft, Mickey McLean and so many others.We are grateful to Teresa Knoll (and Terry), Tina Boyce, Barbara Hart, Dr. Henry Harrell (Joy and Kesha); and Alive Hospice for their support and care of Glenda.Memorial contributions may be made in Glenda]s memory to: Nashville Humane Association, 213 Osceola Ave., Nashville, TN 37209; Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203; or to the charity of your choice.A memorial celebration will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Nero's Grill, 2122 Hillsboro Drive, Nashville.
