Jr.E. Del Wood Jr., formerly of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at his home in Birmingham.He was born June 4, 1933, the son of the late E. Del Wood Sr. and Iva Jones Wood.Mr. Wood grew up in Riverview, attended Normal Park School and was graduated in 1951 from the McCallie School. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he lettered in track and field and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.He was married to the former Elaine Ortlepp of Westfield, N.J., and they lived on Signal Mountain for a number of years before moving in 1961 to Birmingham. For a few years he was in paper and industrial sales until he started his own manufacturers representative company, servicing the coal and steel industries.His favorite pastime was golf. He was a former member of Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club ad a longtime member of Vestavia Country Club in Birmingham, where he won the Birmingham Golf Associations Championship in 1975, as well as a number of men's and seniors divisions.Mr. Wood was a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga.Mr. Wood is survived by his wife of 58 years; and two sons, E. Del (Dawn) Wood III and Stephen H. Wood; four grandchildren, April (Blake) Milner, Kristi Wood, Hannah Wood, and Stephen Wood Jr., all of Birmingham; and a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Pat Thatcher; a niece, Elizabeth (Mark) Bryant; a nephew, Lewis D. Thatcher, all of Signal Mountain; and a niece, Catherine (Doug) Traver, of Knoxville.A memorial service will be held today, Jan. 3, at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Vestavia, with visitation following the service.A.Banks Mortuary and Crematory of Birmingham is in charge of arrangements.
