Betty Jane Epps Painter passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.She was born Aug. 19, 1925 in Athens, Ga., the only daughter of Carl and Claudine Henry Epps. Betty grew up in Rome, Ga., where she graduated from Cooper Hall School. She attended Shorter College and the University of Georgia where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.A member of Brainerd United Methodist Church, she was active in United Methodist Women and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Betty was an avid gardener, a wonderful artist, a fan of University of Georgia football and a happy, loving friend to many.Survivors include her husband, David Mason Painter; daughters, Suzanne (Andy) Nolan, of Lookout Mountain, Janet (Michael) Hays, of Mount Juliet, Tenn., Charlotte (Keith) Stafford, of Niceville, Fla.; son, David Mason Painter Jr., of Biloxi, Miss.; seven loving grandchildren, Lauren Nolan (Henry) Glascock, Christina Nolan (Drew) Jones, Nickolas (Brandy) Hays, Patrick (Danielle) Hays and Molli King Hays, all of Mount Juliet, Tenn., Suzanne Stafford (Rob) Russell and Jennifer Stafford (Derrick) Cunningham; 11 great-grandchildren.Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Chattanooga Memorial Park.
