Charles Lingerfelt

Charlie LingerfeltELLIJAY Charles Eugene Lingerfelt, 71, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, in the care of Hospice at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Mary Agnes Bearden Lingerfelt; brother, Glenn Lingerfelt; sisters, Mildred Hall and Jeanette Mincey, all from the Dalton area.Survivors include his wife, Patricia; daughter, Leigh Ann Lingerfelt; son, Jeff Lingerfelt, both of Chattanooga; daughter, Stacy Clayton; grandchildren, Jake Lingerfelt, Cecily Macomber, Collin Clayton and Madelaine Clayton; sisters, Katherine Manning, Louise Satterfield, Betty Lewis; and brother, Eddie Lingerfelt. He also had 15 nieces and seven nephews.Charlie was raised in Rocky Face and received a football scholarship to the University of Chattanooga, where he received a B.S. Degree in Science. He began a teaching and coaching career in Tampa, Fla. He then took the position of Head Football Coach at Clarkston High School in the Atlanta area for the next several years. In the early 70s he started his own business, Unique Carpets later to become Builders Floorcovering in Atlanta. He remained the head of his company until he retired. He was known for his incredible drive and work ethic in the floorcovering business. He loved to travel and had a passion for nature which lead him to the mountains of Ellijay, Ga. Charlie and his wife, Patricia have two dogs, Rudy and Ellie, that he adored.A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home, 1402 N. Thornton Ave., Dalton, with Paul Clayton officiating.The family will receive friends immediately following services.
