Pete Carter

CLEVELAND, Tenn. "Pete" James Carter, 81, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in a local hospital. He moved here from Atlanta, but has been a resident in Cleveland for the past 35 years. He was retired from Southern Binders and was of the Baptist faith.He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who never met a stranger and enjoyed life. His favorite saying was "You can't keep a good man down." He will be greatly missed and never forgotten and will always remain in our hearts.He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Leona Loudermilk Carter; daughter, Darlene Carter; sister, Sadie Parrott; and brothers, John Carter, Hoyt Carter, Paul Carter and Alvin Carter.He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lura Curtis Carter, of Cleveland; children, Brenda (Bobby) Beavers, Linda (Dennis) Wilson and Ann Ooten, all of Cleveland and Shelbie Burchfield, of Etowah; grandchildren, Carrie (Bobby) Carr, of Ooltewah and William Beavers, Brittany Bacon, Jeremy Beavers, Bridgette Ooten, Ashley Wilson , Amber Wilson and Laurabelle, all of Cleveland; great-grandchildren, Aiden Carr, Carlee Beavers and Marlee Wilson; sister, Velda (Johnny) Collier, of Atlanta; brothers, Calvin (Sam) Carter, Ralph (Johnnie Sue) Carter, Ronnie (Dorothy) Carter and Layne (Brenda) Carter, all of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the Carter family guest book at www.grissomfh.net.Grissom Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements.
